Module 1: Finding Our "Why" in a World of "What"
We often feel a deep pull to share our Jewish heritage, but the path forward is rarely clear. We're faced with a vast and overwhelming landscape of "what"—what holidays to observe, what history to know, what traditions to practice. This can get tangled with our own complicated feelings: past negative experiences, personal doubts, or a sense of not being "Jewish enough" to even begin.
This module is designed to help you find your footing by making one crucial shift: moving from the question of "What am I supposed to do?" to the much more powerful question, "Why does this truly matter to me?" As author Simon Sinek wisely noted:
"People don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it."
The same is true for our children. They don't connect with a ritual just for the sake of it; they connect with the authentic purpose and love they feel behind it. This module is your dedicated space to discover and define that authentic purpose for yourself, creating a solid foundation before you even think about what to share or how to share it.
In this module, you will:
Start with Your Personal Story: Before looking at the grand landscape of Jewish history, we will start with the most important text: your own life. We'll explore your experiences and memories to find the sparks of meaning that are already present.
Connect Traditions to Your Values: You'll learn to look at Jewish culture not as a list of obligations, but as a rich menu of options that can help you express your deepest personal values, choosing only what truly resonates.
Define Your Personal "Why": You'll do the reflective work to articulate the core reasons this connection matters to you, creating a clear and sturdy internal compass to guide you.
By the end of this module, you will be securely grounded in your "why." You will have a deep, personal sense of purpose that will serve as the unshakable foundation for how you choose to live and what you choose to share with your family.
